It’s a much better opening night for the NFL heading into the 2017 season, a weekend Baker lauds as the “best four days in football.” The Pro Football Hall of Fame took a risk by moving the game up to Thursday before the rest of the weekend’s events, but it worked.
Baker said he was inspired by seeing Canton McKinley’s players take the field for the first time and felt those players took on an “air of responsibility.”
Baker did the same over the last year. The Pro Football Hall of Fame spent a year after one infamous night building something that will inspire football fans for the next few generations. For a game vested in that history, it’s a time where the younger generation is in focus more than ever. Maybe that’s why Baker drew the Williamsport comparison, and it’s definitely why he stayed away from calling it a new beginning in Canton.
“It’s a continuance of excellence,” Baker said. “We’ve got 54 years of excellence here, and there is going to be much, much more in the future.”
There’s another hidden meaning to playing Osweiler: “showcasing” any trade value he might have left. ESPN’s Adam Schefter, via The Dan Patrick Show, said Osweiler drew some interest from the Dolphins when that team lost starter Ryan Tannehill to a knee injury. Miami eventually signed Jay Cutler out of retirement, but if Cleveland wants some other team to bite on Osweiler, him playing somewhat well against the Saints helps in that regard.
For many teams, the first preseason game isn’t totally like the throwaway fourth, but it’s close. Once Osweiler gets his time in against the Saints early, it will be Kessler next in, and then Kizer and Kevin Hogan drawing the remaining second-half duties. In reverse, that’s building toward Kessler and Jerseys For Cheap Kizer, in Good Site For Cheap Jerseys perhaps that order, starting the next two preseason games — with the third game being the most critical to Jackson’s final choice.
