Deion Sanders’ Hall of Fame NFL career will always overshadow his baseball contributions, but let’s not forget that for a week in 1992 he dominated the diamond under the sport’s brightest spotlight.
Sanders was the biggest star on either team in that six-game series between the Braves and Blue Jays, though his contributions are often overlooked because his team — the Braves — lost the series (one of Atlanta’s four World Series losses during the ’90s; sorry, Braves fans). But his performance during the series — at the plate, on the base paths and in left field — was one to behold. Let’s look back:
It’s the first complete game from a 40-year-old or older in baseball since 2015. Colon and former Braves teammate R.A. Dickey each threw complete games during the 2015 campaign.
Good for Colon, who was seriously considering retirement midway through the season for the Twins. He hasn’t been great for Minnesota, as he’s pitched to a 5.11 FIP while in the Twin Cities, matching what he did with the Braves. He’s benefitted from a much better Twins defense, so his ERA is roughly four runs lower than that of Atlanta. Aren’t stats fun?
Hopefully Colon can continue to pitch to this level the rest of the season. He’s been a joy to watch these last four years — and has left the controversies of his PED use in the past. He should be able to finish his career on his terms.
In his fifth year in the majors, Nolan Arenado is finally getting Kids Cheap Jerseys China some national recognition. Maybe that’s partly because Arenado was part of Team USA in this Make Your Own Cheap Jerseys year’s World Baseball Classic (though, to be fair, he was abysmal during the tourney).
Arenado’s numbers this season are staggering: 129 OPS+, 24 home runs, 95 RBI (which leads the National League).
